Girl Scout Troop Donates Devices

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/Fox 28) -- Families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Iowa City will soon have a new digital library thanks to a generous gift from a local girl scout troop.

On Monday, members and leaders of Troop 5710 visited the facility to donate three Apple iPad Mini's.

Children and families staying at the house will be able to use the devices during their stay as a source of comfort and entertainment.

The project was inspired by a member of the troop who didn't have access to books during a treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota due to the threat of the spread of germs.  The member thought that having the devices would be a great way to still stay entertained, while limiting the spread of germs.

The girls also donated a gift card and protective cases to get the devices started.
