Ernst Appalled By Husband's Posts

DES MOINES, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Republican Senate Nominee, Joni Ernst is in damage control over remarks her husband made on Facebook last spring.

Ernst says she's appalled by the remarks Gail Ernst made in posts towards Hillary Rodham-Clinton and U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano last May.

On Tuesday, Gail Ernst apologized for the posts which have since been removed from the site.

This controversy is only the latest involving gender and politics in the early stage of the senate race.

Last week, Republicans criticized Ernst's opponent, Bruce Braley over the name of his "Not a Peep Tour", calling out the use of a baby chick as a sexist reference to women.

In November's general election, three women will have their names on ballot across Iowa in what many are calling the state's best chance yet at electing a woman to Washington.
