Girl Found In Ditch, Pronounced Dead

EARLHAM, IA (AP) -- A 2-year-old girl was found face-down in a ditch filled with water in rural Dallas County and pronounced dead after being rushed to a Des Moines hospital.

Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Scott Bright says Deja Ramynke was playing with two other children Wednesday morning in front of a home about five miles north of Earlham when an adult noticed her missing.

Authorities were called and an Iowa State Patrol trooper found her face-down in a watery ditch, about 100 yards from the house.

The trooper started CPR and the girl was taken by helicopter to Blank Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The state medical examiner's office will perform an autopsy.
