Iowa Renaissance Festival

AMANA, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX28) When you visit the Amana Colonies, youre bound to get some sort of history lesson. But this Memorial Day Weekend, the history lesson was much more evident.

The Iowa Renaissance Festival brings in performance actors and visitors from not just around the Midwest, but around the country.

Jousting, living statues, and even mermaids could be found all around the festival, something organizers say Amana helps to make for an even better time.

I think its that unique quality that Amana gives to it that makes historical reenactments so much fun and entertaining for a lot of people, Gregory Schmidt, Producing Director for the festival said.

Schmidt also said Saturdays attendance set records and that the renaissance fair reminds him of a family reunion as many of the actors and visitors make the trip to the Colonies year in and year out.
