Eastern Iowa Mayor Resigns Months After Election

SABULA, Iowa (AP) -- Sabula City Council members are looking for a new mayor and the one elected last fall resigns.

The Quad-City Times reports that Steve Woodhurst resigned this week. He was elected last fall and started his mayoral term in January. He was elected to replace Darrell Rittmer, who served four years as mayor but did not seek re-election.

Sabula City Clerk Rhonda Davis says Woodhurst did not give a reason for his resignation in a letter to the council. Council members will have to decide if they want to appoint a new mayor or have a special election.

In the meantime, Mayor Pro-Tem Marian Alimi is acting mayor.
