Houby Days Wraps Up

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) - A funky-shaped mushroom was all the rage in the Czech Village in Cedar Rapids this past weekend.

Houby Days is a celebration of spring and the morel mushroom that blooms along with the season.

Houby is Czech for mushroom and morel hunting is a popular spring-time activity for families in the Czech Republic.

Organizers for Houby Days say the event has become even more special over the past five years. They say the event has become a symbol for the Czech Village's recovery from the Floods of 2008 which devastated the village.

Along with the mushrooms, people who made their way to Houby Days also got to enjoy other Czech cuisine as well as Czech music.

According to the Czech Village, one out of every four people in Cedar Rapids have some amount of Czech blood in the heritage.
