Performers Hurt After Ringling Brothers Accident

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Eight performers are recovering after a horrifying accident during the Ringling Brothers Circus.

Acrobats were performing in Rhode Island Sunday when they fell nearly 40 feet to the ground. They were hanging by their ponytails in an act called the "Hair Hang" when something went wrong and they fell.

The performers as well as a few people on the ground were taken to the hospital.

Witnesses say at first they thought it was part of the act but they quickly realized it wasn't.

Right now, local and federal officials are investigating to figure out what exactly went wrong.
