Overnight Assault Reported in Iowa City

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/Fox 28) -- The Iowa City Police Department is investigating a report of an assault early this morning.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 AM near the intersection of Muscatine Avenue and 7th Avenue.

The victim said that he was walking home when he was approached by two subjects who attempted to steal items from him.  One of the subjects punched him in the altercation.

One suspect is described as a black male in his early to mid-twenties, 6'1 to 6'4, medium build and wearing a red hoodie.  The second suspect is also a black male in his early to mid-twenties, 5'9 to 5'11, medium build and wearing a gray hoodie.

The suspects reportedly fled the area after the incident in a vehicle that was parked nearby.

Iowa City Area CrimeStoppers is offering a reward of up to $1000 for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.  Anyone with information is urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 358-TIPS (8477).  All callers can remain anonymous.
