Free Wi-Fi at McGrath Amphitheatre

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28)- Visitors to the Downtown McGrath Amphitheatre Cedar Rapids will be well connected, thanks to free Wi-Fi now available at the venue.  With the summer event schedule kicking into high gear, Cedar Rapids residents and visitors will have easy online access using their laptops, smartphones, tablets and other Wi-Fi enabled devices, as they attend any of the many concerts and events held at the amphitheater.

The free Wi-Fi access is possible because of an in-kind contribution from ImOn Communications to the Amphitheatre project.  The City has been working to plan larger free public Wi-Fi zones, and saw this as an ideal pilot location.

We are working with multiple vendors and multiple technologies to make Cedar Rapids a connected city, said Dominic Roberts, Cedar Rapids Director of IT.  Our goal is to continuously improve services to meet the technology needs of our residents.

Currently, users of the service are limited to two hour blocks of usage.  Eventually, existing vendor customers would not be subject to a time limit.  Additionally, the option to purchase more time will be available.

The Citys Downtown Wi-Fi RFP was recently awarded to ImOn Communications.  Full Downtown Wi-Fi access is expected to be operational towards the end of Summer 2014.
