Marion Kiwanis Receives Award
MARION, Iowa (CBS 2/Fox 28) -- The Marion Metro Kiwanis were named recipients of the 2014 Service Club Award of Excellence by the Iowa Park and Recreation Association.
The award was presented during the association's annual conference. The group was nominated by the City of Marion Parks and Recreation Department.
The award recognizes a service group which has supported and contributed to the strengthening of programs and resources of leisure services; achieved through outstanding contributions to the parks, recreation and conversation movement within their community.
The Marion Metro Kiwanis have partnered with Marion Parks and Recreation Department on two major park improvement projects. The first was the installation of a new playground structure in Marion's Lininger Park.
In 2013, the Kiwanis supported the construction of a combination basketball court and ice rink in Thomas Park.
The partnership will continue in 2014 with the development of a fitness trail in Hanna Park. The Kiwanis Club has designated $10,000 to go towards the purchase of outdoor exercise equipment to be placed along an existing asphalt trail within the park.
