Lawmakers Hear From Secret Settlement Receivers
DES MOINES (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Lawmakers in Des Moines heard from former state employees who had received settlements for leaving their jobs.
More than $500,000 was allegedly spent to keep the employees from talking after they were terminated from their positions.
On Wednesday, some of the employees spoke out saying they were let go to give their work to private contractors and that the restructuring saved Iowa millions.
But they now claim the costs actually increased and that the work went to unqualified workers.
Since news of the secret settlements broke, Governor Terry Branstad has signed an executive order banning agencies from continuing to pay former employees to keep quiet.
