First Avenue Overpass Given Funding
IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Iowa City is now one step closer to breaking ground on a much anticipated railroad overpass.
On Tuesday, the Iowa City City Council approved $1-million for an overpass on First Avenue.
This comes after years of traffic congestion caused by passing trains during peak rush hours.
The overpass for First Avenue has been in the works for a while, but delays and setbacks have caused the city to put the project on hold.
The first step for the overpass will be the relocation of water and utility services. But officials hope to begin construction in 2015.
