Botched Execution in Oklahoma
Cedar Rapids, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Lots of debate surrounding Tuesdays failed execution of a prisoner in Oklahoma.
Clayton Lockett was scheduled to die by lethal injection Tuesday but something went wrong.
Authorities say a new cocktail of drugs was used for the procedure.
Several minutes after it began, witnesses say they saw Lockett violently shaking and mumbling, that's when prison officials stopped the dosage of the other drugs that were set to go into his system.
An hour later, Lockett died of a heart attack.
Lockett's attorney says the state should have anticipated problems with the untested lethal injection formula and says he might file a lawsuit.
The Oklahoma Governor is asking for a full review of the state's execution procedures.
