Suspect Surrenders After 2 Pursuits

BENTON COUNTY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- One person is in custody accused of leading authorities on two separate chases Thursday.  The first began around 8:30am when a deputy spotted a stolen pickup east of Blairstown.  After giving chase, the deputy lost the suspect on a gravel road but radioed to other law enforcement agencies a description of the vehicle.
Less than three hours later, a trooper with the Iowa State Patrol spotted a suspect vehicle and a second chase began.  This time, troopers say, speeds topped 80mph on muddy dirt roads near Newhall.
Authorities say the trooper struggled to keep up with the pickup because of the muddy conditions and was forced to back off.  But three other troopers had already positioned themselves on Highway 30 ahead of the suspect's vehicle.
When the man approached the troopers, he stopped and surrendered.  The suspect is now in the custody of the Benton County Jail on multiple charges.
