Waterloo Airport Using Grant for Snow Removal

WATERLOO, Iowa (AP) -- The Waterloo airport is using a $1 million federal grant to buy snow removal equipment.
The Waterloo Regional Airport will get the money from the U.S. Department of Transportation. Michelle Weidner, finance director for the city, says the funding request was included in a previous application for airport improvement money.
Weidner tells the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (http://bit.ly/1oRnR3I ) that such grants typically require a local match. That is usually covered by airport passenger facility charges from plane fares.
U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin announced the grant Thursday. The federal agency awarded more than $3.2 million to Iowa airports for various improvement projects.
