Suspect Killed Himself After Shooting Cop

MAQUOKETA, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Investigators say a Wyoming, IA man took his own life after opening fire on a police officer.  Early Tuesday morning, a Maquoketa Police Officer was investigating a pickup on the side of the road when a man pulled out a gun.
The officer and the suspect both opened fire.  The Sgt. Brendan Zeimet, a 13-year veteran of the force, was hit in the arm.  He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was treated and released.  Sgt. Zeimet is now on paid administrative leave pending completion of the investigation.
The suspect, Aaron E. Scott, was found later in a vehicle that had been in a rollover crash.  An autopsy determined that Scott died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.  His death has now been classified as a suicide.
