Are We Healthier Today?
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28 ) More than 60 exhibitors welcomed visitors to the annual 2 Your Health Expo, Sunday afternoon at the Double Tree in downtown Cedar Rapids.
The event brought in hundreds of people with a wide range of questions about living a healthier life. After a long day of work, just convincing ourselves to move can be half the battle and Derek Stepanek from Northtowne Cycling and Fitness says that can be a real challenge. He and his crew spent the afternoon demonstrating bikes and exercise equipment and encouraging people to get off the couch, There are more opportunities for people to be fit these days, whether or not theyre taking advantage of them remains to be seen. Unfortunately we all know that obesity rates and childhood disease rates and those leading indicators are not good.
At the Blair Ridge Dental booth Dr. Jinny Hanson asked visitors to stick out their tongues as she scanned the inside of their mouths with a bright blue light. The quick test looks for signs of oral cancer. Dr. Hanson says shes happy to see many people asking questions and realizing how important it is to take control of their lifestyle, People are a lot healthier, theyre becoming more educated, theres a lot of new technologies in dental care to make the dental experience more comfortable to patients and different ways to decrease cavities.
Many people attended the 2 Your Health Expo to learn more about nutrition, skin cancer prevention, chiropractic care and physical therapy. Chris Rider from Carlson College of Message Therapy also saw a steady stream of people stop by for free massages.
She says its all part of finding ways to feel better amid so much stress in our lives, Its a bigger struggle for people, but they are looking for ways to improve their health, maybe theyre not doing that well on parts of it, but theyre doing better on asking like whats out there that can help me and help me feel better and message is definitely a part of that treatment.
