Documentary Explores Gender Discrimination

IOWA CITY, Iowa (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Some of the same issues causing controversy on the University of Iowa campus were highlighted in a documentary at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City on Sunday.

"Miss Representation" explores gender discrimination and the effect it can have on women and young girls in the U.S.

The showing of the documentary was presented by the Scattergood Friends School. Administrators there say films like these can help kids decides where to look for better direction in their lives.

"Young women, young boys, men and women will really care to examine how we are portraying women and girls today in the media and to question, are these the role types of mentoring that we want for our young people today," Christine Ashley said.

The Englert agreed to show the documentary for just a donation, because are can motivate positive social change.
