Des Moines Superintendent Lawsuit Moves Forward

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI-TV) A Polk County judge has decided that a lawsuit filed by a former schools superintendent who sued a district over its handling of explicit emails can proceed.

Polk County District Court Judge Glenn E. Pille ruled Tuesday that the emails sent and received by former Des Moines superintendent Nancy Sebring through her district-issued email account and electronics should have remained confidential.

The Des Moines Register reports Sebring's invasion of privacy lawsuit argues that the emails were personal and not subject to the state's open records laws. Des Moines Public Schools says the emails were public records.

Sebring is suing the district, its spokesman, a former school board president and a school attorney. The case is scheduled to go to trial in November.
