Iowa Wrestling Team Sets Record

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) --
The Iowa wrestling team has set a new single-season NCAA mark for home attendance.
The Hawkeyes drew a record 61,843 fans in 2013-14, an average of 8,835 per dual meet. They averaged at least 8,000 fans for the sixth year in a row and led the nation in attendance for the eighth straight season.
Iowa also became the first team in NCAA history to draw at least 10,000 fans to three separate meets.
Penn State was second with 61,170 fans, though the Nittany Lions had one more home meet than Iowa.
The annual Division I attendance report was released Tuesday by New Jersey-based Roby Publishing. It says that 13 of the top 16 teams in terms of attendance saw their crowds numbers improve in 2013-14.
