Iowa Elementary School Employee Accused of Fraud

GARNER, Iowa (AP) -- An elementary school employee in northern Iowa faces criminal charges in connection to Medicaid payments.

Court records show 30-year-old Brooke Banse is charged with first-degree fraudulent practice and tampering with records. A message left for her attorney was not immediately returned Wednesday.

Banse is student advocate and at-risk coordinator at Garner-Hayfield Elementary School in Garner. She is accused of receiving federal Medicaid payments in excess of $10,000 for services she did not provide.

The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit of the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals filed criminal complaints. Court records list the offense date as late 2013.

Banse has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the charges.
