Former Masonville Clerk Enters Plea

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (AP) -- A woman accused of stealing nearly $80,000 while working as town clerk for a northeast Iowa community has pleaded not guilty to mail fraud.
Christine King's pleas to two fraud counts were entered Thursday in federal court in Cedar Rapids. Prosecutors say she mailed false financial reports for the city in fiscal years 2009 and 2010. Her federal trial is set to begin May 19.
King has pleaded not guilty to theft charges in state court. Her state trial is scheduled to begin April 23.
The charges followed a state audit report issued in February 2013 that said King had been taking improper payments from the town of Masonville for nearly a decade. She was fired in October 2011.
