Regent Blasts University President Assault Remark
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- The Iowa Board of Regents is meeting privately to evaluate University of Iowa President Sally Mason, who's faced criticism for a remark she made about sexual assault.
Board President Pro Tem Katie Mulholland also chastised Mason on Friday for failing to keep the board informed during protests over the last week.
The board called the special meeting to hear an explanation from Mason about her comment that ending sexual assault probably wasn't realistic "just given human nature." Mason has repeatedly apologized for the remark and pledged action to address the issue.
Mulholland told Mason her comments were inappropriate and that regents were concerned that students found them hurtful. She said the bigger issue was that Mason had "a pattern of not keeping the board apprised of such issues."
