Multiple Crashes Clog I-380

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- It was not a pleasant morning commute for drivers and law enforcement alike.  Multiple crashes, including an 8-car pileup brought travel along Interstate 380 in downtown Cedar Rapids to a virtual standstill at times this morning.
Cedar Rapids Police tell CBS 2 News the trouble started around 6:30am Thursday morning and it took several hours to clear the traffic congestion.  The worst tie-ups were found in the northbound lanes of I-380 near Quaker Oats.
Authorities have not determined an official cause for any of the crashes, but officials did say black ice may have played a role.  A spokesperson says it's always important for motorists to slow down and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles.  During winter conditions, that distance should be greater as braking times grow.
No one was seriously injured in this morning's crashes.
