Johnson County Sheriff's Officer Honored

IOWA CITY (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Johnson County Sheriff's Lieutenant Kevin Kinney says he didn't get into the job to win awards.

But today he was honored as the Peace Officer of the Year by the American Legion, an honor he didn't even know he was being given. Sheriff Lonny Pulkrabek wanted to keep it a surprise for when he arrived for his day's shift.

"I feel very shocked today about winning this," Kinney said. "I never ever thought I would receive it."

Kinney started part-time with the Johnson County Sheriff's in 1986 before moving to full-time a year later.

Although touched by the honor, Kinney says he just came into work everyday.

"I never got into this job to win awards," Kinney said. "You just come to work and do your job."
