IOWA CITY, IA (CBS2/FOX28) Even when the front year is all dirt and the welcome mat is just a piece of rug, a house can still be a home. The Iowa Womens Basketball team knows about home-court advantage. Theyre undefeated this year in the Carver-Hawkeye Arena. So when former Athletic Director Christine Grant got involved with a Habitat for Humanity Womens Build in Iowa City, so did they.

"To be willing and able to do volunteer work in our community is above and beyond what we expect from our athletes, said Grant.

And they had help from some other female Hawkeyes.

"They're a competitive group. Basically they said we can do it, we will do and they won't take no for an answer, said Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity Construction Manager Christy Shipley.

They started work on the home when the lot a not much more than sticks and dirt. A few days ago, they got to see what their work did for a new local family. Mohamad, his wife and daughter are new to the United States from Sudan.

"I had a dream for myself and my family when I first moved here. You guys made sure this dream came true, said Mohamad Hassan.

Trading the dangers of a war-torn country for a new start in Iowa with just a little teamwork.
