Fairfax Holiday Lights
FAIRFAX, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- In the little town of Fairfax, a bright glow lights up the night sky. Its a light that's driving people near and far to come and behold the sight. Does that sound familiar?
It's kinda nice...you guys like it don't you? resident Jamie Lewis asked his family as he drove through the holiday display.
It's all the handiwork of John Wagner and his neighbor Steve Tomash.
The two joined forces to turn their houses and yards into a winter wonderland filled with classic characters and bright lights. Wagner initially needed an extra push to get into the holiday spirit. He moved into Fairfax 5 years ago, and saw what his neighbor Tomash was doing with the lights, but hesitated to jump in.
After a year of being here, I decided to go whole hog, full boar into it, Wagner said. I'm not a Grinch my heart got that much bigger he said!
The parade of cars coming through the neighborhood has also gotten bigger as the season progressed. The two men enhance the Christmas mood by setting up a radio station for visitors to listen to as they pass through. It allows adults and children of all ages to fully admire the scene.
The entire endeavor wasn't cheap the men say, but they also say it's worth every penny. They say just as the bright star led three wise men to a manger all those years ago, their display eventually leads you to what they say is the true meaning of Christmas.
The last thing they see is the nativity, Tomash said.
The message is Christmas of old, the original Christmas message, the baby in the manger, Wagner added.
This display will be up for the next week. It is located on the corner of Commercial Court and Hillview Drive in Fairfax.
