Lower Muscatine Road Construction Postponed

IOWA CITY (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
The arrival of winter has put the Lower Muscatine Road construction project on hold for the time being.
Fortunately, many of the improvements outlined for the area have been completed, and the road is once again open to through-traffic. The project will resume next March or early April, depending on the weather.
Construction on Lower Muscatine Road is complete from Kirkwood Avenue to the entry to the mall. The remaining section of the road, from about 150 feet northwest of Mall Drive to a section just southeast of 1st Avenue, is open to traffic, but is reduced to one lane in each direction. Sidewalks in that section are also unfinished. When construction begins next spring, the street-paving work on Lower Muscatine Road will be the top priority, which may require additional lane shifts and other temporary traffic control measures. However, traffic on Lower Muscatine Road and vehicular access to businesses will be maintained at all times.
Once the street is finished, pedestrian access, sidewalks, seeding, and other smaller projects will be completed. Construction is expected to wrap up by early summer, weather permitting.
