1 Person Dead, 3 Injured in Polk County Crash

POLK COUNTY, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- On Saturday December 21st, 2013, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Polk County Sheriffs Office received a call reporting a two vehicle collision in the 6500 block of NE 78th Ave.  Polk County Sheriff Deputies along with Bondurant Fire and Rescue, Altoona Fire and Rescue, Ankeny Fire and Rescue and Mitchellville Fire and Rescue were all dispatched to the scene.  When emergency personnel arrived, one vehicle was found on the roadway, the second was on its top in the north ditch of NE 78th Ave.  It appears that one vehicle heading eastbound lost control on the roadway and turned into the path of a second vehicle heading westbound.  

            Two subjects were injured in one vehicle, one subject was injured and one pronounced dead at the scene in the second vehicle. The injured subjects were transported by ambulance to local hospitals all with serious injuries.  The identity of all subjects are being withheld at this time pending notification of family members.      

Polk County Sheriff Deputies will continue to investigate the accident.  It appears that road conditions may have been a contributing factor.  No official cause of death has been released at this time.
