Street Storage Towing Begins Thursday
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CPRD) The Cedar Rapids Police Department will begin towing vehicles still found to be snowed in and in violation of the Streets for Storage on Thursday, January 2, 2014. The public is reminded that streets are not intended to be used to store their vehicles. ALL vehicles must be moved every 48 hours according to Cedar Rapids Municipal Code 61.102 which reads:
61.102 - USING STREETS FOR STORAGE.
No person shall use the street or the area between the sidewalk and the curb or roadway for storage purposes, or to park vehicles for the purpose of displaying them for sale, or for the repairing of any vehicles except where it may be necessary to use same for a short time to make emergency repairs, provided the consent of the owner or tenant has been secured.
Any vehicle parked upon any street or in the area between the sidewalk and the curb or roadway for a longer period of time than 48 hours shall constitute using the streets for storage and the Police Department may move such vehicle to a storage place as provided in Section 61.103.
As a courtesy, the Cedar Rapids Police Department is giving the public the opportunity to dig out their vehicles and move them. The Cedar Rapids Police Department will begin towing vehicles for street storage Thursday, January 2, 2014.
As a reminder, the costs are as follows:
Parking Violation Citation $25
Towing Fee $68
Storage fee $15 a day
If the vehicle is snowed and needs
Snow removed an additional $45
Administrative Fee $60
