General Mills Considering Expansion In CR
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- General Mills is looking into expanding its Cedar Rapids facility, a move that would create 40 new jobs.
The Cedar Rapids City Council is considering sponsoring a state financial assistance application for the company to increase production at the plant. Financial assistance would come mainly from State Investment Tax Credits. The Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance assisted in preparing the state application, which will be sent to the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
The expansion would involve converting about 10,000 square feet of warehouse space to food-grade manufacturing space. Pending approval of the application and final decision of General Mills, construction would begin in mid-2014, and be completed in early 2015.
