DBQ Station to Offer Gas, Diesel Alternative

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) -- A new public pumping station in Dubuque is offering an alternative to gasoline and diesel.
Rainbo Oil's compressed natural gas station opened on Friday. Compressed natural gas can be used in lieu of diesel and gasoline to fuel certain vehicles.
Compressed natural gas is a clean-burning gas that costs up to 40 percent less than gasoline or diesel. It's composed of approximately 95 percent methane, and compressed to pressures of 3,600 pounds per square inch. One thousand cubic feet of natural gas has the same amount of energy as roughly 7 gallons of diesel fuel.
The U.S. Department of Energy says the closest stations that offer the fuel are in Cedar Falls, Verona, Wis., and La Cross, Wis.
