Good Samaritans Help Woman

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI-TV)A red pickup truck jumped the median and stopped on a frontage road along Hubbell Avenue recently. Darrin Helmers and Keith Olson, who also work together as carpenters, were 50 feet away when they heard screaming.

They said the truck door was open and there was a man on top of a woman choking her. They said she was hanging head-first out of the truck.

The attacker also had a hammer and hit the woman in the head several times.

Helmers and Olson raced to the truck and pulled the woman out of the passenger door. Olson leaned in and grabbed the driver.

Yeah, I had a hold of his right arm, pulling, Olson said. He was probably about halfway across the passenger seat. Then he used his left arm to get it in gear. Thats when I let go instead of getting dragged.

The driver took off down Hubbell. Police said the driver was 31-year-old Brian Huckfeldt. Authorities have not located Huckfeldt.

The victim, a 30-year-old woman, told police she fell asleep in the passenger seat of Huckfeldts truck. She woke up when he was beating her and accused her of being a cop and stealing his meth.

The victim was bleeding from the head and her left eye was swollen shut. She was taken to the Methodist emergency room, where she was treated and released.

Huckfeldt has an extensive criminal history, according to online court records.
