Mayor, City Clerk, Resign In Swisher

SWISHER, IA (CBS2/FOX28) On Monday both the Mayor and City Clerk of Swisher turned in their resignations at a city council meeting. Mayor Tim Mason had two years left on his term, City Clerk, Connie Meier, had one year left. For folks in the small city of less than 1,000 it was unclear why the resignations took place. It was unbelievable! I just couldnt imagine something like that happening here! Fred Shelton of Sheltons Grocery Store in Swisher said.
Shelton has been in Swisher since 1938 and hasnt ever seen something like this happen.
We all liked the Mayor, Tim, and the Clerk, Connie, Shelton said.
Longtime Swisher resident Darrell Gear agreed with Shelton.
It was actually a shock! Gear said. He had worked with Meier and knew her well.
I cant say anything bad about her! I think shes done a tremendous job! Gear said.
CBS2/FOX28 heard grumblings around town from folks that didnt want to go on camera about arguments at the city council meetings. Some even said bullying took place between council members. Mayor Protem, Mary Gudenkauf, declined to comment on the rumors. A review of the 2013 meeting minutes didnt show any documented conflict.
I heard it gets a little loud sometimes, who gets loud, I cant tell ya! Gear said.
But at Sheltons Grocery Fred Shelton said hed keep posting the council minutes on his bulletin board to support his town.
Its a marvelous place to live. I couldnt imagine living any place else, Shelton said.
The Swisher City Council will hold a special session at the Swisher Town Hall on Monday, November 18th at 6:00 p.m. At that meeting they plan to decide what will be done about Mason and Meiers open seats.
