Cedar Rapids Leaf Pickup Behind

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Cedar Rapids Leaf Vacuum trucks are doing their best to tackle the high volume of leaves set out at the curb this week, but they are running behind schedule.  This morning the trucks are working to finish the collection of leaves for Thursday's collection routes and plan to tackle Friday's routes this afternoon.  The garbage, recycling and yard waste collections remain on schedule.
As the collection crews work into the evening to catch up, there are several things residents can do to help the crews:
Move cars away from leaf piles.  When cars are parked in front of leaf piles, the crews cannot collect the leaves.
Wait to report missed leaf collection.  If leaf collection falls behind schedule customers may see their leaves collected the day after their normal collection day.
Utilize your YARDY Carts.  The leaf collection and yard waste collection are run with different trucks, leaves set out in your YARDY cart will be collected on your normal collection day.

The leaf vacuum collection crews are starting at 7 a.m. and working into the evening to try and reach everyone this week, but the volume makes the process slower. Collection updates will be posted on CR News Now (Garbage and Recycling News category) and Facebook (CR Garbage).
The leaf vacuum collection program will continue through December 6, weather permitting. The Cedar Rapids Solid Waste & Recycling Division would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding.
