City of Cedar Rapids Named Blue Zones Worksite

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The City of Cedar Rapids will receive its Worksite Designation from the Blue Zones Project at 3:00 p.m. today, November 19, 2013, in the Cedar Rapids City Hall City Council Chambers, 101 First Street SE.  Mayor Ron Corbett and City Manager Jeff Pomeranz will be presented the designation on behalf of the City.  

The City of Cedar Rapids was named by the Cedar Rapids Blue Zones Project to be one of 20 worksites identified by the project to become a designated worksite.  The City is pleased to have achieved this designation within the first year of the project. 

Blue Zones Designated Worksites maintain work environments that are inspiring and encouraging to employees, and promote well-being. Some of the individual elements that the City demonstrated to become a designated worksite are:
    Supporting a breastfeeding policy and designated breastfeeding room
    On-site fitness centers and activities
    Multiple well-being education events held throughout the year
    Health benefits made available for full-time employees
    Vending machines stocked with at least 50% healthy snack options
    Weight management, nutrition, and chronic condition management coaching offered to employees
