Restoring Johnny Carson's Iowa Home

CORNING, Iowa (KCCI)No one will claim the white house at the corner of 13th Street and Davis Avenue in Corning is a mansion.

"It's a pretty dinky little house," said Chris Nelson, owner of the home.

Nelson admits it's been a fixer-upper.

"The foundation was cracked. It was a bad scene," said Nelson.

What happened inside the home in 1925 makes this little Iowa house an entertainment goldmine.

"Well the special thing is Johnny Carson was born here," said Nelson.

Carson was NBC's King of Late Night, being introduced every night with the phrase, "Heeeeere's Johnny!"

While Carson was king, the home at 500 13th Street was just another house.

"Everybody knew this was Johnny Carson's birthplace house, but nobody had done anything about it," said Nelson.

Nelson said he found the plaster hanging down from the walls and the ceiling was bowing down. It's was in bad shape.
