Keeping an Eye on Halloween Drinking and Driving
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/ FOX 28)--Covered in ghouls and goblins, the bar at Sammy's lounge will be just as decked out as the folks coming in for Saturdays costume party.
"We're expecting a couple hundred people this evening," said Demian Papagni, night manager.
But they're doing a lot more than just decorating to get ready for the early Halloween rush.
"We generally have a cab or two outside already," Papagni said.
Cabs, extra staff, and watchful eyes are all part of the bar's plan to make sure those who've had too much to drink don't drive.
"The more people looking to make sure everybody's safe yet having a good time, the better it is," Papagni said.
The Linn County Sherriff's department is also keeping an eye out.
"We have one car out tonight, it's a traffic car," said Sergeant David Omar.
The car will be looking for signs of festive partygoers who may have had one too many drinks.
"His main focus is going to be impaired driving, speeding, Omar said.
"A twenty dollar cab is not worth hurting yourself or somebody else," Papagni said.
