Food Assistance Program On Hold

UPDATE:

The USDA released this statement on the EBT cards:

"EBT cards in a number of states have temporarily stopped working today due to a technical issue that the vendor that serves these states is experiencing.  The vendor is working to fix this issue and EBT cards will work again once it is resolved. This issue is not related to the government shutdown."

ORIGINAL STORY:

WEST DES MOINES (CBS 2/FOX 28) Anyone trying to use a Food Assistance Program EBT card in a Corridor grocery store Saturday met trouble.

A computer processor that tracks the card usage went down, leaving card holders with no way to charge food to their accounts.

The problem is in several states right now, including Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, North Carolina, Maine, Pennsylvania and New York.

Hy-Vee corporate offices tell CBS 2 News government workers are trying to fix the problem, but so far, there's no word on how long that will take.
