Oelwein Residents React to Shooting

OELWEIN (CBS 2/ FOX 28)-- Through his bedroom window, Don Welsh woke up to what he thought was a bad dream.
I could just see red lights everywhere, Welsh said. I started seeing them put up all that tape, and I knew something bad happened.
At 6:59 am Tuesday, police found Myron Meador, 44, and Niki Meador, 38, shot inside their home on on the 100 block of 10th avenue.
Its a shock to people like Welsh who lives a few feet away and describes the family as quiet and mostly keeping to themselves.
I never heard them fighting or nothing, he said.
Its sad and its frightening, said Erika Kaufman, property manager of Otter Creek Cottages, an apartment complex across the street.
I got a lot of phone calls this morning, wondering what was going on, Kaufman said.
People were calling saying, Oh my goodness, theres police officers all over. We heard the gunshots, she said.
Police Chief Jeremy Logan says residents shouldnt worry and that the public isnt in any danger.
Even so residents like Don say they arent taking any chances.
I got a baseball bat in there, Welsh said.
