CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28)--More than a year after a man was shot to death; his admitted killer is heading to prison.

The shooting death outside Woody's Show Club in Cedar Rapids last year ends in a plea deal.

I have been robbed of watching him grow into the man I taught him to be, said the victims mother Ericka Adim.

Ericka Adim came to witness the sentencing of the man who murdered her only son.

It happened last year on April 16th.

Her son Raphael Blackwell junior was fatally shot in the parking lot of woody's show club.

The shooter 23-year-old Dominique fisher was initially charged with first degree murder.

In court today he plead guilty to two lesser charges: attempt to commit murder and willful injury with a deadly weapon.

The prosecution says it agreed to the deal because its witnesses kept changing their stories of what happened that night.

In the end, 40 years in prison and $150,000 in restitution to Blackwells family.

"Nothing is going to bring my son back but I feel like justice was served. He will do some time for murdering my son, said Ericka.

Ericka says she still doesn't know why fisher shot her son or what happened that night but

"I can get closure now, Ericka said.

Fisher will have to serve 70 percent of the attempted murder charge before he is eligible for parole.
