Truman Elementary Runs 5K for Relay For Life

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Fifth graders at Truman Elementary took a break from learning today for a good cause.
Students trained for a month to run a 5K from Truman to Veteran's Memorial field as part of the Jon Cushing Relay for Life.
Cushing was a local business owner and avid runner.
After the 5k, students celebrated with a game of baseball on the field.
Teachers say it's important to not only get kids outside -- but to inspire them with Jon's values.
The kids trained in P.E., during recess, and at home to prepare for the 5k.
Teachers say there were only a few complaints about how far the run was.
