50 Years of Newborn Screenings in Iowa

   In less than a week (Sept. 18th), Iowans will celebrate the 50th anniversary of a National newborn screening program.
   Nearly 40,000 babies are screened each year at the UI Children's Hospital to help identify inherited disorders.
   With one blodd sample, doctorsy say they can identify more than 50 diseases.
   Officials say every year, more than 60 Iowa babies lives are saved or improved because of the process.
