KEOKUK, Iowa (AP) -- David Gudgel, the former mayor of Keokuk in southeastern Iowa, has died. He was 63.
DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Centers confirmed that Gudgel died Saturday at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Gudgel served four terms as mayor between 2001 and 2009. His work in office included implementing a 12-year street improvement plan, building a new aquatics center and constructing a new performance pavilion at a local park.
Current Mayor Tom Marion says Gudgel's public service will serve as a legacy to future generations.
Visitation will be held Thursday at Trinity United Methodist Church. Funeral services are scheduled Friday at the same location.
