Early Voting Starts in CR School Board Race
CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) - Early voting begins today, August 9th, for a number of education ballot measures - including for the Cedar Rapids Community School District.
Three school board seats are up for grabs in a September 10th election in the Cedar Rapids district, only one of them is being contested.
Gary Anhalt is running unopposed for the At Large seat, as is Nancy Humbles for District 2. In District 3, however, Lawrence Wenclawski and Keith Westercamp are competing for the seat.
Cedar Rapids voters are also being asked to approve a 10-year property tax increase for a district building plan. If approved, the levy would amount to $1.34 for each $1,000 of assessed valuation on properties for each of the ten years.
Also on the Linn County ballot board seats are up for grabs in the Kirkwood Community College, Alburnett Community School District, Center Point-Urbana Community School District, Central City Community School District, College Community School District, Linn-Mar Community School District, Lisbon Community School District, Marion Independent School District, Mount Vernon Community School District, North-Linn Community School District and Springville Community School District.
And Cedar Rapids isn't the only one seeking a property tax hike for school construction. Others seeking an increase in property taxes are Kirkwood Community College, Mount Vernon, Marion Independent, Lisbon and Alburnett.
