More College Students Use Debit Cards

NEW YORK (CBS 2/FOX 28) --
College loan company Sallie Mae says the number of college students who use credit cards has dropped in 2013.
Officials say it fell from 42% to 30%.
Out of those who do use credit cards, more than two-thirds have a balance of less than $500.
Most students (80%), the study says, use a debit card.
One of the upsides to credit cards, though, is that parents can co-sign with their children and set specific limits.
That helps the student gain credit with some oversight.
