Study: Fans' Fat Linked to Losing Team

WASHINGTON, D.C. (CBS 2/FOX 28) -- Could your faith in struggling teams affect your waistline?  That's the claim by one new study published in the journal Psychological Science.
Researchers looked at 24 NFL cities and found that people consumed 16% more saturated fat the day after a game the city's team lost.
In towns where the home team won, saturated fat consumption dropped 9% the following day.
The study also found no increase or decrease among people who don't have a favorite team.
Scientists speculate the desire to eat bad foods could be a coping mechanism, while fans of winning teams eat healthier because of a boost to their self control.
