Ellis Area Development

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA (CBS2/FOX28) -- It is one of the last areas in Cedar Rapids for the city to redevelop after the floods of 2008, but the city is now looking for public input on how to change the Ellis Boulevard area.

The city just got state approval to make the neighborhood a Viable Business Corridor, that means they can rebuild within the 100-year flood plane.

They want to know whether or not there will be more residential or retail locations, or a mix.

"Those are the questions we're asking tonight and we're very excited to hear what residents really think a successful redevelopment of this area might be," said city planner Jennifer Pratt.

The city also said it does not have the money to build a sustained levy for flood control at this point.
