Academy Leader Got Warning

IOWA CITY (AP) -- The assistant director of the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy received a warning instead of an unpaid suspension for making numerous workplace comments that were sexually inappropriate and, in one case, threatening.

A disciplinary letter obtained by The Associated Press shows 70-year-old Michael Quinn violated Iowa's anti-discrimination and violence-free workplace policies with remarks to cadets and employees about his body parts and sex life. He told one subordinate he would "slit your throat" if she acted up.

In lieu of a five-day suspension, ILEA Director Arlen Ciechanowski issued a "written notice of alternative discipline" in September 2012 that didn't affect Quinn's pay or benefits in the $91,000 per-year job.

Ciechanowski warned the letter was a "final warning" and that any more improper statements will result in Quinn's firing.

Quinn declined comment.
