1 Hospitalized as Cedar Rapids Van Goes Airborne

CEDAR RAPIDS (CBS 2/FOX 28) - At least one person was hospitalized following a late morning accident in Cedar Rapids during which a van went flying thru the air before striking another.

The accident happened about 11:15 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of "C" Ave and Collins Road, just in front of the CBS 2/FOX 28 studios.

A witness says one van "came tearing" toward the intersection along Old Marion Road. At the intersection of that road with C Ave, the van crossed C Ave. then raced across several hundred feet of grass before racing up a hill.

At that point the van went airborne briefly, landed on Collins Road and struck a van with several children inside on the opposite side of Collins, pushing both vehicles off the roadway.

One witness tells CBS 2/FOX 28 that he was bicycling eastbound on Collins Road when the van came flying in front of him, barely missing him.

The driver of one of the vehicles was taken to a local hospital, none of the children involved were injured and the cause of the incident is still under investigation.
